The Firm’s attorneys appear in Landlord-Tenant Court in the District of Columbia and Maryland assisting management companies and landlords, as well as tenants, on evictions, rent collection and rent control matters.
The Firm has handled a large number of appellate matters related to real estate and complex business contracts over several decades. The cases have been argued before the DC Court of Appeals, the US Court of Appeals for the DC Circuit and the administrative agency known as the District of Columbia’s Rental Housing Commission. Many of the cases argued by the Firm’s attorneys have resulted in precedent-setting decisions favoring our business clients.

The Firm handles many estate matters with a particular emphasis on the appropriate disposition of realty upon the opening of an estate. The Firm’s attorneys also draft wills, durable powers of attorney and health-care directives for its clients.

Corporate, Commercial & Business
The Firm serves clients in traditional areas of corporate, commercial and general business law with a strong emphasis on real-estate related matters. The Firm advises owners of rental units in the District of Columbia on the steps they must take in order to manage rental properties which are subject to many statutory and regulatory mandates. The Firm prepares and files all paperwork necessary to position their clients before regulatory and administrative government bodies, including the DC Department of Consumer Affairs, the DC Department of Housing & Community Development, the Office of Tax and Revenue, the Recorder of Deeds and the Office of the Surveyor. We also draft contracts between clients and those with whom they do business.
Business Entity Formation
The Firm assists clients in selecting the form their business entity will take and drafts the documents required to establish and register the business with the appropriate government agencies.
Arbitration & Mediation
The Firm’s attorneys are skilled practitioners before professional arbitration associations, as well as the District of Columbia’s Superior Court mediation program, providing clients with an opportunity to settle litigation without the need for trial.
Mortgage Lending and Foreclosures
The Firm represents clients at residential and commercial loan closings, and before the DC and Federal courts relative to foreclosure proceedings. We also review and provide advise related to proposed loan terms. The firm’s attorneys have assisted tenant groups purchasing residential apartment buildings in negotiations with traditional mortgage lenders, as well as second-trust non-profit lenders.
